Why Consistency Is the Key to CEO Communications and AI Visibility

Consistency is the under-utilized "Key C" of CEO communications—and the golden key to both audience understanding and AI visibility.

My recent Forbes Business Council article, The 'Key C' Of CEO Communications In The Age Of AI: Consistency, explores why. You'll find the link to the full article below.

The Questions Behind Every PR Conversation: What and Why

What and why? Those two questions have followed me through business startups, conferences, speaking moments, and so much more. When it comes to public relations, the big questions of "What exactly is PR?" and "Why is it important, and what can it do for me?" have been 25+ year conversations for me.

And OK—I should include "how" in the above opening sentence, shouldn't I?

The Mission: Explaining Public Relations

One of my key missions as a member and writer within the Forbes Business Council is to try and answer those questions—honestly, and with the understanding that few people are as "knee-deep" in the industry as those of us actually practicing.

There are so many nuances, yet the simple answer is that public relations helps you connect with your market audience, allowing you to hear and be heard. But we'll get into that in much more detail in future conversations.

Where AI Fits Into Your Public Relations Strategy

My most recent feature article, published October 28, tackles where and how AI fits into your public relations strategy. Like the conversation around PR itself, this could be a looooong conversation.

However, the article shares my humble opinion—and hard-won experience—as to when and how to use AI, and how to use the strategy of consistency to make this technology work on your behalf.

Why AI Rewards Consistent Messaging

AI reads what you write, then digests and categorizes it. When a company is described one way in a trade feature, another way in a leadership journal and a third way on a podcast, AI receives competing signals. What AI cannot clearly identify, it tends to deprioritize—or forget altogether.

The article outlines four points for consistency in the AI world:

  1. Create a one-line description before you launch, not after.

  2. Use the words your buyers use, not your company's internal language.

  3. Brief every outlet from the same core facts.

  4. Treat every new piece of coverage as a vote.

Insights From AI Visibility Architect Maria Dykstra

For this feature, I had the chance to speak to Maria Dykstra, AI Visibility Architect and author of The Invisible Audience: Why AI Leaves You Off the List, and What Actually Matters. She conducted original research to secure clear insights regarding how AI is being used, how to make your company and yourself visible, and why some companies with big pockets are winning the day.

Most importantly, she shared how to even the playing field and earn the AI visibility you and your company deserve. Spoiler hint: public relations plays a big role. Even more important is consistency, which is the subject of this most recent article.
